This guy is gonna make a lot of people very unhappy (those who probably deserve it). Good luck to him.
  • Barack! · 1 year ago
Interesting polemics and a great orator, but to be honest a lot of what he wants to accomplish is gonna be very time and energy consuming.Like a lot of gifted leaders he will be ground down by the "establishment" so dare we hope he will be any more effective?? Good Luck

Vote this guy in. McCain supporters: WAKE UP!

I just hope this guy remains safe. He will make a lot of corrupt fat cats unhappy. We NEED someone to make corrupt fat cats unhappy. and this is the guy to do it.

Seems obvious with all McSames lies that Obama is clearly the lesser of the two evils!

"We are spending $10billion on Iraq when we can be spending that at home"
Wait, didn't Obama vote to continue funding Iraq, funding that mostly goes to independent contractors and not our troops?

He's an amazing speaker, but you really need to start decoding his rhetoric and looking at his voting history. He's really just Mccain with a different voice.
  • Danny · 1 year ago
Voting records aren't a particularly good indicator of the future actions of a president. It assumes that a legislator always votes based on his own beliefs, not on the opinions of his constituents who he/she is elected to represent.

Furthermore, voting against funding our troops is political suicide. A vote against funding is painted as an "anti-troop" vote regardless of its legitimacy. In today's sound-bite-based political world, a vote against funding is immediately scattered throughout countless campaign ads and will undoubtedly turn away casual voters.

Claims that he is an amazing speaker imply a false choice. They suggest that it is his oratory skill and not his substantive policy proposals that make him great. It is certainly possible, and I believe it to be true in his case, that he is both a great speaker, an impressive leader, and a cunning politician. All three things are essential to being a great president.

Finally, it would be nice to have a president that constantly told what he believed to be the truth (i.e. Ron Paul). But candidates like that are virtually unelectable because the majority of Americans aren't interested in that kind of truth.
  • Barack! · 1 year ago
Geez I hope you're right about him being cunning impressive and great cos this country could use a bit of that right now. I sure hope that the sincerity and enthusuaim he exudes will be repaid in kind by the people cos he's gonna want some commitment from folks too- irrespective of who wins , this country is gonna have to bite the bullet if it wants to still be leading the world and thats gonna hurt...I sure hope he wins...and stays a winner.

You seem like one of those people that assumes that people with "support the troops" ribbons on their cars are pro-war. You can make sure the troops are properly protected and supplied and be against the war at the same time.
  • hopeful · 1 year ago
may God help us and shine clarity into the minds of the people that have been blinded by rumors and hate against this man. We need a leader like Obama more than we ever have.

    Washington 2.0!!!!!
  • The Dentist · 1 year ago
Why does every comment refer to Obama as "this man"?
  • John · 1 year ago
Probably because he's the only subject in the video. The video that this page is dedicated to.
  • Tom jones · 1 year ago
What makes anyone think he's so different? Politicians always tell us what we want to hear through eloquent speeches... And in the list of comments we see an American favorite... the threat of moving out of the country...
  • Sam · 1 year ago
Excellent! Barack Obama rocks - what a speech, friends; the reforms he presented are even more wonderful.
  • Andy · 1 year ago
Corporations are people...so you tax corporations, you tax the employees that work there, and the consumers of the corporation's services or products. All that corporation is going to do is reduce salaries and benefits to employees and raise the price of their product. So don't buy into this talk of making corporations pay taxes so you don't have to. What we really need is true tax reform and a government that spends a LOT less of our money.
  • John Williams · 1 year ago
This is great but the problem is it only applies to his administration, which is only the executive branch. Most lobbying is to members of Congress, over which Obama does not have the power to regulate; only Congress can pass rules or laws regulating their own behavior. In practice, the lobbying reforms proposed will not affect much since very little lobbying is of executive branch employees.

McCain could easily come right back and tell us that he will push to legalize Marijauna and Heroin and BAM steal the presidency

Well, if this guy is elected, America is due for a new episode of "Amateur Hour."

Never run a business, never run a state, never run anything before. Why not jump right in, run the largest economy in the world. Pity to think that we don't deserve better.
  • lygaret · 1 year ago
And what's McCain run, except for 1.5 failed presidential bids? Never run a state, never run a company. Maybe you should put the hockey mom on the top of the ticket, at least then you can use the "executive experience" argument with some modicum of legitimacy.
  • W · 1 year ago
    honesty FAIL.

I'm Obama and I'm Superman. I will do all this...bla bla bla.

Wait till theres another 'terror' attack and all this gets put on the backburner. This will not happen. The change needs to come from the grassroots, not standard politicians engaging the grassroots, and this can ONLY be done through media and culture, a change within ourselves that politicians will have to later adopt.
  • ME · 1 year ago
You assume that Obama would be asleep at the wheel like the last crew. I doubt an attack happens under his watch, he may actually ...you know.... read some of the briefings that are prepared for him. Especially the one entitled "Osama bin Ladin to attack the US" he may just read that unlike the current fool.
  • Real · 1 year ago
Obama is the personification of your "The change needs to come from the grassroots" And with regards to "a change within ourselves that politicians will have to later adopt"... Obama IS the politician that has adopted that change.

This man is exactly what this country needs. This man is what the world needs to run the biggest country in the world.

I'm over here in Ireland, and I simply cannot understand why Obama is not dominating the race. I think the entire world will be devastated if this man doesn't get in. America is in a terrible condition, socially and economically. Please vote him in! Experience will be gained on the job.
  • Blaketman · 1 year ago
I'm in America. Me and my father discussed the same thing a few minutes ago. Only conclusion we could come up with is that people are stupid. That's pretty much it.
  • matt · 1 year ago
did you ever go to keewaydin?
  • JRC · 1 year ago
Declan, our country seems split in half. The half that supports Obama (typically east and west coast, urban, educated) doesn't understand why its such a close race either. It's like we are two different countries.
  • Lars · 1 year ago
Being from Germany, I was always weary of Obama, because of his messiah like status, and being from Germany I have some problems with a cult evolving around one person.
But this was the first of his speeches I have actually seen and I must admit: I'm impressed, although I know the speeches are written by Jon Favreau (one of my favorite hollywood dialog authors).
I wish your county all the best, and Obama seems to be it. Good Luck!

    the new 'Wisconsin Idea?" anyone?
  • Clem Kadiddlehopper · 1 year ago
Now, if we can just get him to commit to stopping work on the so-called "Future Combat Systems", one of the biggest boondoggles of our time. (Makes the "bridge to nowhere" look like chicken feed.) Boeing, BAE and GD should be ashamed to be involved in this kind of ripoff!
